Blogging

First addressing the public verses private blogs, I think that private would be the most useful for my classroom. I would be afraid of information appearing on my blog that would be incorrect or counterproductive. Now as far as individual students using blogs, I think it could be very beneficial for them to network via a blog to people all over the world. I do think that schools should educate students about blogs: IE what information is appropriate to share online with people you do not know and ways to protect your identity. My biggest fear is that I will not be able to implement this into my classroom because of the content that I am teaching. Every once in a while the curriculum would lend itself to something like this but most of the time I don't know if I could come up with an implementation that would be meaningful for my high schoolers.

  1. In my high school trig and calc classes (I had the same teacher), we were put into groups once a month to do investigations. Each group was given a different problem to solve. The group had to solve the answer correctly and then explain to the rest of the class how to solve it correctly. You could use your blog like that - invesigations. Or you could have your more advanced students use it to explain how to solve open ended questions like on the PSSA's.
